How did your career in the jewellery industry begin?

Growing up I was always very much a creative type of person, which led into my love for art and design. I chose these subjects in all my studies including my time at Bristol university where I studied fine art and textiles. I realised I loved incorporating mix media such as metals and gems into my pieces and not confining to the standard norm of design. After university as a lot of students are I wasn’t sure what my next step would be but, in the meantime, I worked in a jewellery shop. This is where I really fell in love with jewellery design being inspired by sentimental antique jewellery to contemporary modern pieces that are made today. Since working with Taylor & Co I have been able to express my creativity with bespoke design pieces that are all completely different and my mind is challenged to come up with new ideas every day.

What do you love most about working in the jewellery industry?

My favourite thing about working in the jewellery industry is seeing a piece of jewellery made that has its own identity. I see this from fine jewellery from Van Cleef to independent jewellers that create a collection that solely represents them as a business. I love seeing pieces that are a little bit different and unique. I get inspired with my bespoke work by these designers as well as my customers own pieces of jewellery especially more antique and handmade items. I find thinking about the history and thought process that went into making these handmade items fascinating and I love remodelling this items or restoring the piece back to life.

What’s your favourite piece of jewellery you own?

My favourite piece of jewellery is a ring I got for my 21st birthday from my mum. This is a piece she got on her 21st birthday which makes it even more special. It is a 9ct yellow gold wishbone ring with 5 small white stones in the centre. Its very dainty but very sentimental too me and is one of my most treasured items.

What can someone expect during a bespoke jewellery appointment with you?

Bespoke appointments with Taylor and Co offer a professional yet relaxed experience. I believe that creating something personal should feel collaborative, and ideas are always welcomed. I will guide you through each step, offering advice whilst keeping the vision clear.

What are the benefits of choosing bespoke jewellery over what’s available in store?

Bespoke work enables us to specialise in creating a custom piece that reflects our customer’s personal vision. The possibilities are endless and can incorporate sentimental value, such as using family stones into the creation. Crafting personal pieces that you wouldn’t find on the highstreet, allows us to tailor a one of a kind item perfect for you.

How long do bespoke jewellery projects take?

In my experience the whole process can vary in time. Sometimes it can take longer perfecting a design or choosing sourced stone but typically our turn around time is 4-6 weeks.

What are some of your favourite projects you’ve worked on so far?

One of my favourite projects has to be a client who inherited multiple stones which included shaped and different coloured sapphires as well as diamonds which included a old cut diamond. We wanted to incorporate all of this stones and make a fun and contemporary engagement ring that reflect his partner. We chose the metal platinum as it really showed off the different tones of blue as well as being appropriate for a every day ring as platinum is very hard wearing. This was not the most traditional ring but a it.
